Project Overview
St. Bernadette’s RFC is a transformative community hub for South Bristol, playing a vital role in the area’s regeneration. This project marks a significant investment in the local community, aiming to revitalise the region and create new opportunities for its residents, particularly the youth. The development of the club has brought to life an ambitious vision, with the new facility acting as a beacon for community engagement and well-being.
The club’s inclusive approach has fostered a welcoming environment where local people can come together, share experiences, and thrive. The impact of this initiative has been recognised with the prestigious 2024 Construction of Excellence Award.
While the primary focus of the club is sporting activities, the versatile design of the building, with its multi-purpose rooms and flexible spaces, also accommodates a wide range of community clubs, societies, and events.
Clegg Contribution
Clegg played a key role in providing comprehensive structural services throughout the St. Bernadette’s RFC project. Our involvement included critical tasks such as earthworks for the terraced pitches, pitch and site drainage, and foundations. We also designed the steel framing, masonry superstructure, and cut timber roof, ensuring that the building structure met the required standards of durability and functionality.
Additionally, we contributed to the development of paving and retaining walls, enhancing both the aesthetic and practical elements of the facility. In collaboration with Cole Easdon, Clegg also supported the creation of a flood risk assessment and drainage strategy, addressing potential environmental challenges and ensuring the site’s long-term sustainability.
