Work is officially underway on a new £15m health centre and GP surgery in Weston-super-Mare, marking a significant milestone in the town’s long-term regeneration ambitions. Located on Sunnyside Road North, the new facility will replace the existing Graham Road surgery and form the first completed element within a wider town-centre transformation programme.
The project is being delivered by the South West team at RED Construction Group, in partnership with StudioHIVE and Atlas Land, with land provided by North Somerset Council.
Once complete in 2027, the five-storey health hub will provide modern NHS clinical accommodation for up to 12,500 patients, alongside space for a future pharmacy – significantly improving access to healthcare for a growing population in Weston-super-Mare.
Clegg is lead structural engineering consultant for the Health Hub building (Block A), supporting the project from RIBA Stage 3 through to completion. This £14m multi-storey accommodation block is the first new-build within the wider redevelopment and sets the technical and delivery benchmark for future phases.
Our scope includes full structural and civil engineering design. Working in close collaboration with the wider teams, we have developed a robust and efficient design that balances performance, constructability and long-term resilience.
During construction, our team will remain actively involved through design queries, inspections and certification, ensuring technical rigour and continuity from concept to completion.
Part of a broader transformation
The health hub forms the first phase of a wider regeneration vision led by North Somerset Council. Alongside the new medical facility, the masterplan includes around 200 one- and two-bedroom apartments on land formerly part of Weston-super-Mare Rugby Club, plus a site allocated for a future primary school.
The development also lays the groundwork for further regeneration around Weston Gateway, with community and sports facilities woven into the long-term strategy for the town.
“This is a huge step forward for Weston,” said Dan Aldridge MP. “For too long local people have been waiting for modern health facilities, and I’m really pleased to see this project finally getting underway.”
Mike Bell, leader of North Somerset Council, added: “It has been a complex project and we have been working hard behind the scenes with developers and the NHS to help make it happen.”
Clegg’s collaborative, solutions-led approach reflects our commitment to engineering resilient, enduring structures that enable thriving communities.
