Traditional Cottage | Blandford

Clegg provided structural services for a traditional cottage situated in Blandford, Dorset. Our customer requested a sympathetic extension to the side of his traditional stone and brick thatched cottage. The room layouts and window locations required an internal steel frame. The challenge was to incorporate this frame alongside modern masonry construction methods. This gives the traditional appearance desired.

We found the optimum position for the new steel frame. As a result, we worked to find the best compromise of the spans involved and the depths of the steel sections required. After calculating the various loads for the frame, we determined the size of the steel beams and columns, as well as their foundations. As a result, the customer was happy with the outcome.
