Project Overview
Long Hazel Farm development in Sparkford, Somerset, features six unique farm-styled homes, each offering exceptional quality and specification. The project included the development of both residential and commercial areas, designed by Ashford Homes with architectural services from Boon Brown. The homes blend traditional farm aesthetics with modern living standards, providing a desirable living environment in a rural setting. This successful phase sets the tone for future developments on the site, ensuring high standards of design and construction throughout. The development has received positive feedback for its thoughtful design and attention to detail.
Clegg Contribution
Clegg provided comprehensive civil and structural engineering services, overseeing both the substructure and superstructure aspects of the project. The residential houses were constructed using traditional masonry with load-bearing walls supported by continuous strip foundations. These foundations were designed to evenly distribute loads based on soil conditions and frost protection needs. The masonry walls were tied to the floors and roofs for lateral stability, with pitched timber trusses used to safely transfer roof loads to the walls. Clegg’s expertise ensured the stability and longevity of the development.
