Project Overview
Clegg collaborated with Peter Kent Architects on the refurbishment of a former weaving mill located on the edge of the Cowbridge Estate in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. The mill was being converted into residential spaces, contributing to the regeneration of the area.
Clegg Contribution
Clegg Associates played a key role in the project, working closely with the design team to ensure the building met all technical requirements. After conducting an initial site visit and structural survey, we designed steel beams and new timber floor joists, facilitating the architect’s vision while ensuring compliance with design standards. The team also carried out essential repair work to a wall adjacent to the Leat Pond, which allowed for the creation of attractive outdoor terraces for future residents. Additionally, Clegg designed and oversaw the construction of an external timber balcony, which formed part of the front elevation of the large duplex apartment, including its foundations and connections.
Heritage-led Regeneration
The project was a key component of the wider regeneration efforts on the Cowbridge Estate. By refurbishing the mill, Clegg and the wider team contributed to the sustainable reuse of a historic building. This approach not only preserved the architectural heritage of the site but also supported the transformation of the area into a vibrant residential community, respecting the historical context while introducing modern comfortable living spaces.
