Project Overview
The Compton Dundon development, located in the picturesque village of Compton Dundon in South Somerset, offers a collection of stunning family homes nestled at the foothills of the Combe Hill woods. Set amidst the unspoilt countryside, the development showcases traditional masonry houses, designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding rural landscape. The project features homes built with load-bearing walls, supported by traditional strip foundations that distribute the structural load evenly to the ground. The foundations were tailored to the site’s soil conditions and vegetation, ensuring stability and protection against frost. Pitched timber trusses form the roofs, transferring loads efficiently to the walls, providing both durability and aesthetic appeal.
Clegg Contribution
Clegg provided essential civil and structural engineering services for the Compton Dundon project, overseeing both the substructure and superstructure design. The substructure involved the design of traditional strip foundations, ensuring a stable and well-distributed load-bearing system tailored to the local ground conditions. Our expertise also extended to the integration of masonry walls with the roof structure, enhancing lateral stability.
The pitched roofs, supported by timber trusses, were designed to transfer loads effectively to the load-bearing walls. Clegg’s contribution ensured the development’s structural integrity and seamless integration with its natural surroundings.
