Project Overview
The Avalon Marshes, located in the heart of the Somerset Levels and Moors, is a region renowned for its natural beauty and rich heritage.
The Avalon Marshes Centre, just 10 minutes from Glastonbury, serves as the main gateway to this stunning wetland landscape. Visitors to the Centre can access a variety of amenities, including a car park, visitor information, accessible toilets, café, craft gallery, archaeology museum, and bookable meeting rooms. The Centre is not only a key attraction for tourists but also a vibrant hub for community events, volunteering, and the management of the local nature reserves, which are supported by organisations like the RSPB, Somerset Wildlife Trust, and Natural England.
Clegg Contribution
Clegg’s involvement in the refurbishment included the design and specification of key structural elements. This included the design of a timber canopy, specifying pad foundations for pergola and canopy posts, and timber trusses for the roof.
Clegg also specified raft foundations for a café kiosk, providing detailed reinforced concrete and drainage designs to ensure the structure’s stability and long-term performance.
