Mike Wingfield has been at the very heart of Clegg since he co-founded the company nearly 40 years ago. He’s now embracing retirement and we know how much we’re going to miss him.
We’ve taken a trip down memory lane to reflect on the incredible journey that Mike has had through his career. After graduating in engineering from the University of Cambridge, Mike’s early career took him overseas, working on marine and civil engineering projects across the world.
On his return to the UK, he decided that he wanted to run his own engineering consultancy, and Clegg was born. In partnership with John Clegg and Richard Hawkins, he established a business driven by strong performance, with a particular focus on excellence in design, technical ability and project management.
Mike’s passion for engineering excellence has filtered through every aspect of Clegg. Working with fellow director John Blair, our business has evolved into a company that genuinely keeps clients at the heart of everything we do. We form real, honest partnerships with the people we work with and Mike’s leadership and presence has guided us as these partnerships evolve.
Mike’s specialisms and technical ability have made him an incredible asset to his clients. His work on listed properties, green energy and pre-cast concrete cladding has supported prestigious clients in multiple sectors, all of whom have found creative and innovative solutions to their construction challenges, thanks to Mike.
We know it won’t be the same without him, and we’re determined to continue to build the incredible business that Mike has been so fundamental in creating.
