During construction of BAA’s new Terminal 5 at Heathrow, we were approached for advice on the construction of four ramps at the rear of the car park. Each ramp was 23m in diameter and 17m high, wrapped around large vent shafts from the underground station above which it was built. Our client, Malling Products, part of the Laing O’Rourke Group, asked us to review the preliminary design with the project team.
Clegg Associates were appointed to provide a design, detailing and project management for a waste food plant in Codford, Wiltshire. The Anaerobic Digestion plant will receive 45,000 Tpa of food waste to provide methane gas from two 21.5m Dia digesters. The gas will be burnt in two CHP engines to provide electricity, with the waste sludge used as fertiliser on the nearby fields.
The £20M Northacre Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facility in Westbury built for Hills Group will increase the proportion of Wiltshire’s municipal waste diverted from landfill to more than 80 per cent, handling 60,000t of waste per year. The biological treatment process requires a building infrastructure that includes extensive reinforced concrete material reception pits, a large treatment hall, processing and storage areas and office and welfare facilities.
